BUSTER'S SEA COVE copy

SMELTS copy

A little back in June here, I blogged about my favorite spot at the St. Lawrence Market to have a fresh fish meal. It’s a place so easy to get to if you follow these directions here. And if you are visiting Toronto, here is a good map for you.

My favorite place is the Buster’s Sea Cove in the upper level here. And this fabulous place is not only about fish and chips! They make fried and grilled fish such as: calamari rings, smelts, salmon steaks, tilapia steaks and more…should I continue? The Market is always packed as people go for lunch and also to shop for fresh produce, meats, cheese, sweets…

It’s really hard to go for lunch unless I am working downtown Toronto, but it’s ideal to go for dinner! Keep in mind they close at six and by five they start packing up. Show up before five o’clock and you will still have a chance…I have been craving smelts for the longest time…And yes, I am a Smelt Lover since childhood! I used to catch them myself at the beach at night, how fun!

For us today was the day! We had smelts and chips, so fresh and yummy! For me just a few squeezed lemon drops on top and a little sea salt. Aren’t you envious already!

Let me talk a little about smelts for those who have no idea what these little fish are or where they come from…They are found in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans but also live in the North American Great Lakes, thank goodness!!! And of course they also live in Europe. They are so good that some sportsmen ice fish them!

Love your fish!

For a minute there I thought when you said fresh fish meal – something raw? LOL There’s this one dish I like but I’m afraid it’ll gross you out :-(

But I’m with you with fresh fish and those fried fish in the picture is making me hungry. I’ll just get some rice and soy sauce or vinegar with some salt for dipping :-)
