Marie De Fête…Day One…Marie Antoinette Dolls…
When I think about Marie Antoinette, the first things that comes to my mind are her spectacular gowns made of fabulous fabrics. I found this video with many gown designs…
Marie Antoinette have inspired many artists with her fabulous style and taste. Let me introduce you today to Marie Antoinette Whitman, a quilt/mixed media artist who makes the most amazing Doll-Theaters. Her dolls have the most amazing gowns made out of beautiful fabrics, trims and embellishments…But I would rather let Marie Antoinette tell you all about them.
Marie Antoinette says:
My name is Marie Antoinette. I want to tell you what inspires me to create my vignettes. It doesn’t take much. I can go shopping and spot something and an image would clearly pop in my head. I can see the possibility of an object. And it comes to me somehow. I can also see a picture. I love to create a picture that I’ve seen…my version of course. Then sometimes I create by accident. That’s how I started making what I call my tree Angels or Tree Dolls. My Christmas stocking wall hangs that I paint with glitter…I got started making them by buying a Stocking panel. I thought it looked dull. Since I’ve already made glittered T-Shirts…It did not take long to figure out that painting over the print with glitter, it would sparkle like all get out.
My newly discovered Theater Dolls: My latest discovery was inspired by the birdcage vignettes. But I did not want to copy anyone…This is true…I had to invent something of my own and believe it or not …it came to me while falling asleep. Instead of draping a gown over a birdcage, why not drape it over round plaques. I work with plaques all the time. Make a wheel. Plaque on top, plaque on bottom. I already made a couple of gazebos. I make the scene in between. Then I had to figure out the top doll part. Without going into detail, I decorated the porcelain bisque doll head and hands and attached it. My newest Marie Antoinette Theater Doll I bought the fabric a long time ago and put it away. When I went shopping I found the peacock figurine, well it popped in my head that blue fabric.
Then when Gabriella Delworth invited me to be apart of the Marie De Fete….I knew I had to create this Marie Antoinette Theater Doll, using the fabric and figurine. I wish you could see the richness of this fabric. I think its called taffita.Anyway it shine and the color changes and seems like it dances around. I glittered up the peacock. It’s so much prettier in person. I do hope you enjoy Gabriella’s Marie De Fête. I know she’s worked hard on this project. Let’s give her a big thank you…Thank You Gabriella!!! Now everyone go and visit and enjoy.

What an incredible event you are hosting! I’ve had such fun visiting and seeing what these wonderful artists have created. I had the privilege & honor of meeting Marie this spring and felt like I have known her for ever from that first moment. She is so beautiful through & through! Marie showed me her treasury of dolls and one was more exquisite than the last – she is a true artist. She blessed me with a gorgeous Christmas angel that will be a family heirloom. I posted it after I returned home from my trip but it will make a real Christmas debut after Thanksgiving when we deck the halls! Marie is a trusted beautiful friend and is so dear to me & my DIL Chris!! Bravo Marie – you outdo yourself with each doll! Much love to you! Sherry

I’ve always been a huge fan of Marie Antoinette’s … her meticulous work is a delight. But, this doll is simply amazing. So intricate and with such witty and elegant touches. I remember once I saw a Christmas doll she made that was my favorite – but, indeed, this one surpasses that one! And I didn’t think it was possible. Trés magnifique!
I enjoyed the video – I’ll have to add it to my youtube favorites and go back and watch it again.
Loving the festivities, Gabriela!
