Marie De Fête…Day Two…Tea with Marie Antoinette…

November 19, 2009

Marie Fete ButtonSunday

Marie Antoinette loved having tea and sweets. She was lucky enough to receive tea gifts from the Emperor or China…Let’s watch this video I found and see what kind of tea she was having with her brother. Take a look a close look at Marie’s beautiful china…

To celebrate Tea with Marie Antoinette I am introducing you to an artist who can really illustrate and paint teacups   using watercolours like my artist friend, Kimberly Shaw. Her paintings are amazingly detailed and so real that they actually look like photos! I really think Marie Antoinette would have loved Kimberly’s china as much as I do. Imagine he Queen of France pouring tea into one of Kimberly’s teacups! Her artistic journey is quite unique…let’s read it in her own words.

Kimberly Shaw’s brief story:

card Aqua Birthday

Kimberly Shaw began making hand-made greeting cards, each with a small gift enclosed, 25 years ago at Christmas. After teaching herself to watercolor, she now creates paintings of teacups and teapots for her own line of greeting cards and stationery.

Each card comes with its own teabag tucked in the rim of a teacup or teapot as an added little gift.

About the photos:

The Blue Willow and Lace Doily watercolor was painted while on vacation as one of three in a series of paintings featuring doilies inspired from those made by my grandmothers.

pink rose

The Aqua Birthday Teacup Greeting card was created from the same vintage teacup that was a surprise gift from my husband.

The Pink Rose Thank You Teacup Greeting card was inspired from a friends vintage teacup and my antique bud vase.

A small painting titled “Sunday” inspired from one of my vintage postcards.

My absolute favorite from Kimberly’s photos is the Blue Willow and Lace Doily. This painting looks so real! Love it! Which painting would be your favorite? Could you really choose?

You can keep up with what she’s on her blog right here or find all her Special Tea Greeting Cards & Stationery website here.

Remember to return later today for another post on a new Marie inspired surprise…Marie De Fête Day Two.

The Surprise Giveaway will be announced at anytime…

If you missed the prior post, it’s right here.

Hi Gabriela! Another wonderful post!! I done some research on the china used by Marie Antoinette and she really had some influence on the patterns that were produced for her by Sevres. She loved her tea sets and your post was a great way to show a little bit about her day. And the tea cup paintings are really lovely…I am sure Marie would approve! ~ xo Joy
