Make a Tie-Dye Spiral T-Shirt with me!

March 17, 2010

Thank you very much for all your emails! I am so glad you enjoyed the Tie-Dye segment on Daytime York last Tuesday, March 9th. The video clip is right here for to watch, just click on the image below. It is best watched in Explorer, Safari. Not in Mozilla.

Honestly, I really wish I had more time to show you the full process of this fun project. Let’s make a Spiral Style Tie-Dye T-Shirt in a very Spring/Summer look!

Here are the instructions as you requested:

MATERIALS:

Tulip® One-Step Fashion Dye™ {Fuchsia, Turquoise, Yellow}

INSTRUCTIONS:

The first thing I did was to wash my T-Shirt without using softener to get rid off the sizing. And to save time I used it wet right out of the wash.

  1. Having a protected area to work on this project is really important. I worked on a flat surface covered by recycled plastic bags and also inside a bucket.
  2. I then added water to the bottle with the dye powder and shook it to dissolve it completely.
  3. To create my T-Shirt design I placed it flat on a surface and pinched the middle the center of the shirt and then began twisting and rolling it tightly until it turned into a thick disk.
  1. I then secured an elastic band {they also come in your dye box} around the outside edge of the disk. And repeated this process four times creating sections.
  2. Most importantly, I put on my gloves {you get a plastic pair in your dye box}.
  3. I dyed these sections alternating with Tulip® One-Step Fashion Dye™ alternating colours and making sure I didn’t let dye run into other sections.
  4. I then placed it inside a bucket and let it set for about 8 hours.
  5. I washed it by hand in cold water and a small amount of liquid laundry soap.
  6. I air-dried it.

I was really pleased with the results. It was so much fun! They make great gifts.

    Hi Gabriela,

Thanks for stopping by my blog. This T-shirt project is fun. I haven’t tie died in years! I wish I had the room to do it in my apartment.
